Key to the success of any health systems strengthening project is whether it effects broad, sustainable, institutional change. Sound strategic planning can grow a successful hospital pilot program into a nationwide health intervention that improves lives. Success Story: Changing Systems to Change Lives in Ethiopia: Aster’s Story
The Auditable Pharmaceutical Transactions and Services (APTS), a package of interventions, was piloted in Debre Markos Hospital in Ethiopia and showed unprecedented success in increasing the availability of essential medicines and decreasing wastage. Presentation: Scaling Up Integrated Community Case Management
The SIAPS/Burundi team supported Burundi’s Ministry of Health (MoH) National Malaria Control Program to evaluate their pilot of community case management of malaria. The objective was to inform the requirements for expanding services to include malaria, diarrhea, and pneumonia, called integated community case management (iCMM) and recommendation to consider for scale-up. RxSolution: An Electronic Inventory and Patient Management Tool Improves Access To and Rational Use of Medicines
Over the past three years, SIAPS has expanded the use of RxSolution to a total of 350 sites across South Africa. RxSolution is an electronic inventory management and pharmaceutical dispensing tool that supports efficient and effective management and distribution of medicines from the supplier to the patient. Video: Reducing Stock-outs and Saving Lives in Bangladesh
The SIAPS Program worked with the DGFP in Bangladesh to successfully implement a nationwide, web-enabled logistics management information system with a dashboard to track the stock status of contraceptives at 29,200 service delivery points. The tool has supported the transition of local-level managers from data producers to data users, improved decentralized decision making, and reduced stock-outs. Read more>>
