SIAPS Presents at Antimicrobial Resistance Meeting

SIAPS’ Dr. Mohan P. Joshi, Principal Technical Advisor, was invited to present at the Treatment for Tomorrow: Finding Breakthrough Innovations for Tackling Antibiotic Resistance meeting which was organized by ReAct and Duke University and took place in Durham, North Carolina from December 6-8, 2012.

The meeting focused on sharing experiences and discussing possibilities on where innovative breakthroughs for dealing with AMR can be derived from and how to shape the process for generating and cultivating their development and scale-up.

Four main areas for potential interventions were discussed:

  • Delivery/distribution systems for medicines
  • Infection control and prevention
  • Realigning economic incentives/incentives for rational use
  • Metrics, maps and media

Dr. Joshi presented during the first day’s panel on Innovation Target #1: Delivery/Distribution Systems for Medicines on the topic—Accredited Drug Dispensing Outlet (ADDO): An Innovative Model for Access to Antimicrobials. During his presentation, Dr. Joshi discussed how ADDOs have become an innovative model for access to medicines and services and also highlighted the community-focused AMR intervention carried out through this platform.
