Vietnam

In Vietnam, changing demands on pharmacy practitioners, including the need for and supply of essential medicines for HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria, mean that pharmaceutical staff must have the required knowledge, skills, and competencies to do their jobs. Preservice training provides an opportunity to build sustainable skills and competencies. SIAPS supported the Hanoi University of Pharmacy in reforming its undergraduate and postgraduate curricula to ensure that critical components that ensure efficient and effective pharmaceutical management are incorporated in the pharmacy training course.

Preservice curriculum reform and sound implementation is a cost-effective and sustainable intervention that will lead to broader pharmaceutical and health system strengthening. Major activities undertaken included mapping gaps and required competencies; developing a draft curriculum, including topic areas, instructional plans, and content summaries; and finalizing the draft curriculum with wide stakeholder engagement.
