Ethiopia Signs Federal Legislation for APTS

Ethiopia’s Auditable Pharmaceuticals Transactions and Services (APTS) package was developed by the SIAPS team in Addis Ababa to provide accountability and transparency in the pharmaceutical sector. This month Ethiopia’s Federal Minister of Health signed a directive that legislated the implementation of APTS in all public hospitals and health facilities. APTS was piloted in one small hospital located in the remote mountains of Debre Marcos. APTS’s early success led to a rigorous testing phase of the package at a number of hospitals across four regions in Ethiopia. The Federal Ministry of Health has now requested USAID-funded SIAPS to assist in the national rollout of APTS.
