Family Planning and Reproductive Health

Over 200 million women worldwide would like to use family planning methods but do not have access to them. To achieve universal access to reproductive health services, women and men must be able to choose, obtain, and use family planning commodities, as well as products and services for preventing HIV and AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, when they need them.

SIAPS supports country-level pharmaceutical systems and supply chains for reproductive health commodities to advance contraceptive security as well as work with programs that integrate family planning with other services for maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and more to ensure attainment of desired health outcomes. SIAPS works on the global level to provide technical and policy guidance and leadership in pharmaceutical management issues relating to family planning and reproductive health and supports USAID’s Procurement, Planning and Monitoring Report for Contraceptive Commodities, which provides routine data on contraceptive stock levels from various countries.

In Bangladesh, where unmet need for family planning has increased in recent years, SIAPS is working closely with the local government, the World Bank, and others to improve transparency and efficiency in procuring reproductive health commodities. This effort includes supporting an electronic and a web-based logistics management information and procurement tracking system established by the SPS Program.
